Course Description

This course focuses on systemic ethical dilemmas related to adolescent confidentiality and ways to engage families while respecting teens' privacy. Discussions include legal and ethical frameworks for marriage and family therapists. 

Participants who complete this course will be able to: 

  • Review the AAMFT Code of Ethics and learn the basics of Ethical Principles and Ethical Standards
  • Review the KY Code of Ethics Confidentiality revisions introduced in 2021
  • Understand how to use ethics in their problem-solving and decision-making related to Working with Families in Family therapy and Adolescent families involving caregivers
  • Explore how the use of technology impacts MFT ethics and identify potential ethical issues regarding confidentiality with using of technology in providing therapy services
  • Evaluate the role of professional self-care as it relates to ethical MFT practice and identify how to incorporate self-care into consistent practice
