Course Description

Fertility challenges affect 1 in 8 couples and the experience can be isolating and traumatic for those who experience it as well as the families who support them. This course is an introductory exploration of the infertility experience from a psychological and systemic therapy standpoint. The course will explain the critical ways a systemic therapist can support the individual, couple & family. This course speaks not only to what factors contribute to making systemic therapists working with infertility effective, but also addresses specific treatment approaches that can yield positive outcomes in working with this unique population. It also emphasizes the importance of appropriate professional mental health training, as well as an understanding of the unique medical treatments that are an inherent part of the personal experiences of these clients.

Participants who complete this course will be able to: 

  • Gain increased knowledge of infertility’s systemics effects on individuals, couples, and families.
  • Explore issues of emotional vulnerability, self-care & self-disclosure experienced by therapists dealing with their own infertility challenges.
  • Identify and integrate strategies to support the client system experiencing infertility.
